Job Title: Intern
Location: 101 Merrimac Street, Suite 603
Boston, MA 02114
Hours: 8-12 Hours per week (preferably, but flexible)

Responsibilities:
Intern will support both the Development and Program Coordinators.
S/he will maintain the integrity of the donor database information
and will prepare informational packets as well as press kits as
needed. In addition, Intern will manage general clerical work such
as filing, photocopying, faxing, mailings, and running errands to
the main hospital campus and post office.
Spring & Summer:
During the spring and summer months, Intern will continue to work
on general office tasks as well as tasks that relate to the annual
dinner in the fall. Other events take place during these months
that require preparation work.
Fall & Winter:
During the peak time at the organization, in preparation for the
annual dinner, Intern will be responsible for several large mailings,
database updates, and supporting the team which organizes the dinner.
More hours may be required to fulfill the needs of the organization.
Also the general office tasks will continue during this time. After
the dinner, a clean-up/ reorganization of the office is needed.
Attendance at the dinner may be required.
Requirements:
Candidate should have excellent problem solving and time management
skills, and must be organized, detail-oriented and professional.
S/he must be self-driven with a clear focus on quality. Maturity
and reliability is necessary. Candidate must also have an interest
or major in communication, fundraising and/or healthcare. S/he must
have the ability to work in a small, fast-paced, deadline-driven
office setting. Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel is
preferred.
The Kenneth B. Schwartz Center:
The Schwartz Center is small non-profit organization, which is dedicated
to strengthening the relationship between patients and caregivers
through education, training and support programs for clinicians,
and public education. Ken Schwartz was a health care attorney who
died of lung cancer in 1995. Shortly before his death he established
the Center to promote a health care system in which caregivers are
compassionate, engaged and able to spend the necessary time with
patients, addressing their medical and emotional needs. The Center
raises its own funds through a major annual event in the fall, several
smaller fundraising events throughout the year, and general direct
mail fundraising appeals. A 24-member Board of Directors that includes
many professionals and experts in the health care field oversees
the Center.
