Blogging about Compassionate Health Care
Boston, MA – The blogosphere’s first conversation dedicated exclusively to compassionate health care, Bedside Manner, is occurring at http://blog.healthtalk.com/bedside-manner/schwartz-center.
Boston-based blogger Julie Rosen, the executive director of the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, opines about what makes a compassionate caregiver and the challenges to delivering emotionally-intelligent care. She also showcases caregivers who have “connected with your heart and soul in a way that gave you hope and helped you cope with a difficult illness,” to quote Rosen.
“The blog is a natural extension of my work at the Schwartz Center, a nonprofit whose mission is to improve the relationship between patients and caregivers,” said Rosen. “You’ll find lots of blogs about medical conditions, healthcare policy, doctoring and the like, but as far as I know, I’m the only one writing about this very essential element of medicine.”
Past posts have talked about:
- caregivers who were unable to honor a dying woman’s wish to pursue physician-assisted suicide
- a doctor who dramatically changed his beside manner after being told coldly over the phone that he had cancer
- an organization started by the parents of an infant who died, dedicated to educating caregivers about the importance of family-centered care
Bedside Manner is hosted by healthtalk.com.
