Celebrating Extraordinary Acts of Compassion

How to Nominate

Anyone can submit a nomination. To nominate a healthcare professional or team for the 2020 National Compassionate Caregiver of the Year (NCCY)® Award, please complete the online nomination form with the following information:

  • Your name and contact information
  • The name and contact information for the individual or team you are nominating
  • A nomination letter (500-word minimum) highlighting why this individual or team exemplifies compassionate care

You will have an opportunity to save your work and return to it at a later time before you submit. However, we can’t accept additional or changed materials once you have submitted. Please note that nominations are not anonymous.

After your nomination has been submitted, we will notify your individual or team nominee and ask that they submit additional materials in order to be considered for the NCCY Award. These materials include a personal/team statement and up to four additional letters of support from colleagues and/or patients.

All nominations must be received by March 23, 2020 to be considered.

All nominees will be contacted by the end of September 2020 with notice of their nomination status.

Selection Process

A recipient and several finalists will be chosen in the individual and team categories. Selection is made by a national review committee, which includes past award recipients, in collaboration with representatives from the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. They will be recognized at the Annual Kenneth B. Schwartz Compassionate Healthcare Dinner on December 3, 2020 in Boston. The recipient will have an opportunity to share their perspective on compassion in healthcare.
