Schwartz Rounds® Program
Schwartz Rounds Implementation Training Package
For partners joining the Schwartz Center community as of October 1, 2025, the following are included as a part of your implementation training package in Year 1:
- 5 implementation training seats for the Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team:
- The Schwartz Center recommends the Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team to consist of the following:
- Clinical Leader: 1
- Facilitators: 3
- Program Coordinator: 1
- In the event any individual transitions off the Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team, complimentary implementation training using the online asynchronous Schwartz Rounds coursework and access to trainings and workshops will be available to the successor.
- Cohorted training experience including self-paced online courses through the Schwartz Center’s Learning Center coupled with live virtual meetings with Schwartz Center program experts, focused on successful Schwartz Rounds program implementation.
- Virtual onboarding and implementation support led by Schwartz Center program experts.
The following are included as a part of your Schwartz Rounds package for all partners running the Schwartz Rounds program annually starting in Year 1:
- In the event any individual transitions off the Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team, access to complimentary implementation training using the online asynchronous Schwartz Rounds coursework will be available to the successor
- Ongoing individualized program support by Schwartz Center program experts
- Schwartz Rounds session observations and debriefs, provided by Schwartz Center program experts
- Monthly Schwartz Rounds Community of Practice sessions
- Access to ongoing trainings and workshops
- Access to SFA: The Basics
- Access to Program Resources site
- Monthly Community Newsletter
Optional add-ons:

Program Guidelines
- Each Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team should always include at least one Facilitator and one Program Coordinator/Administrator. Please contact your Program Advisor/Mentor for guidance on succession planning.
- Site or System will encourage multidisciplinary and interprofessional participation during Schwartz Rounds Team-based Schwartz Rounds may have a more focused audience. Site or System will respect the integrity of the focus of Schwartz Rounds and shall not combine Schwartz Rounds with other clinical rounds.
- The Schwartz Rounds program will be implemented and conducted using the general format created by the Schwartz Center, including any variations, supplementations, or modifications provided by the Schwartz Center.
- Material deviation from the accepted Schwartz Rounds framework provided by the Schwartz Center is generally not permitted. If the site or system wants to deviate materially from this overall format provided by the Schwartz Center, they will seek guidance from Schwartz Center program experts prior to holding the Schwartz Rounds session to discuss the proposed changes and how the changes are expected to enhance the session in a manner consistent with the purpose of the Schwartz Rounds program.
- Any organization conducting the Schwartz Rounds program, must always refer to it as “the Schwartz Rounds®”
Schwartz Rounds Presentations, Publications and Articles
- Prior to publishing or presenting any content related to the Schwartz Rounds, Site or System will submit drafts to the Schwartz Center at community@theschwartzcenter.org for review and comment. Advanced notice is not required for internal announcements regarding Schwartz Rounds to potential participants. The Schwartz Center will have 30 days to review the materials to ensure the content accurately describes the purpose, goals, structure, or other aspects of the Schwartz Rounds program and provide any comments for approval.
- The Site or System will notify the Schwartz Center when content will be presented publicly (conference presentation, poster presentation, manuscript acceptance, etc.). The Site or System will provide the publication schedule and reprint information, where applicable.
- Any presentations, scholarly articles, and other publications or works of authorship related to the Schwartz Rounds program that are original to and are prepared exclusively by the Site or System, are the property of the Site or System.
- Any presentations, scholarly articles, and other publications or works of authorship related to the Schwartz Rounds program that are jointly prepared with the Schwartz Center will be owned jointly.
- All materials, information, or tangible works related to or created for the Schwartz Rounds program may only be distributed under the Schwartz Rounds trademark unless approved in advance in writing by the Schwartz Center.
- The Site or System will acknowledge the support of the Schwartz Center in all Publications and publicity generated in connection with the Schwartz Rounds program.
Conducting a Demonstration Schwartz Rounds at Conferences
- Prior to proposing or planning to demonstrate or host a Schwartz Rounds session at a conference, contact Schwartz Center staff so that they can support you in creating the strongest and most accurate description of the work of the Schwartz Center. They will also follow up with you following the conference for feedback.
- Only Schwartz Rounds Facilitators who have facilitated six or more Schwartz Rounds sessions and have completed the Schwartz Center’s trauma informed training should conduct the program at a conference to ensure the quality of the attendee experience.
- Avoid delving into the detailed process of implementing the Schwartz Rounds program if asked by attendees. It is fine to share that the process begins with becoming a Schwartz Center partner, and that it typically takes 6-12 months from inquiring to the launch of the first Schwartz Rounds session.
- Include the registered trademark in the first instance when referring to the Schwartz Rounds program in written materials.
Schwartz Rounds Sessions Dates, Topics and Visitors
- Each Site or System will provide a schedule of dates and topics for upcoming sessions to the Schwartz Center upon request.
- To support Sites and Systems in fostering impactful and healing Schwartz Rounds environments, the Schwartz Center strongly recommends at least one observation of a Schwartz Rounds program annually by Schwartz Center staff. Observation is conducted by Schwartz Center program experts and only with prior consent of the Site and System.
- Schwartz Rounds sessions should only be open to employees, affiliated clinicians and trainees, and other authorized personnel or visitors of the Site or System. Authorized personnel may include pre-approved in-person or virtual visitors accompanied by Schwartz Center.
Confidentiality
- All printed and electronic publicity for the Schwartz Rounds program should include a statement about the intended audience for the sessions.
- All participant and panelist comments made during each session will remain confidential and the site or system will not use the comments for any other purpose.
- Although the Schwartz Rounds program does not involve the use or disclosure of individually identifiable patient information or protected health information, the site or system agrees that all such information that is incidentally or inadvertently disclosed in connection with the program will be kept confidential in accordance with all applicable laws.
Schwartz Rounds Evaluations
- Following each Schwartz Rounds session, the session information form and aggregated evaluation data will be submitted to the Schwartz Center through the session information form. The evaluation should be reviewed for internal program support purposes. For any questions, please contact a Schwartz Center staff member or community@theschwartzcenter.org.
Additional Recommendations:
- While hosting the Schwartz Rounds program, your organization may indicate that it conducts the program and link to the Schwartz Center’s website: theschwartzcenter.org. If you’d like a template for reference, please contact community@theschwartzcenter.org.
Schwartz Stress First Aid (SFA)
Stress First Aid Train the Trainer (SFA TTT) Package
For partners participating in Stress First Aid Train the Trainer as of October 1, 2025, the following are included as a part of your Stress First Aid Train the Trainer package in Year 1:
- 10 training seats for the Stress First Aid Team:
The Schwartz Center recommends the team to consist of the following:
- Program Manager: 1
- Clinical Leader: 1
- Trainers: up to 8
- Cohorted training experience including self-paced online courses through the Schwartz Center’s Learning Center coupled with virtual meetings with program experts, focused on the Stress First Aid program content.
- Virtual implementation meeting with Schwartz Center program experts
- SFA: The Basics online course for embedding into organization’s learning management system for internal training and implementation methods
The following are included for all partners participating in Stress First Aid Train the Trainer annually starting in Year 1:
- Ongoing individualized program support by Schwartz Center program experts
- Monthly Stress First Aid Community of Practice sessions
- Access to any updates of modules or materials throughout continued partnership
