Resources for Healthcare Workers
Compassion makes healthcare better – one connection at a time.
At the Schwartz Center, we know that compassion has the power to save lives. Compassionate healthcare isn’t just an ideal—it’s essential for patients, families, and their care teams to thrive.
Our programs increase compassion in healthcare and create more meaningful connections between patients and healthcare professionals. We deliver evidence-based solutions that restore purpose to healthcare work, reduce burnout, and ensure that compassion remains at the heart of healing.
The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare is proud to partner with the Wells Mountain Initiative in support of the 2026 Dream Big Conference and to support scholars pursuing careers in healthcare and service — reflecting our shared belief that compassionate leadership changes lives far beyond the individual.
The Schwartz Compassionate Care Model
Schwartz Stress First Aid
is an evidence-informed framework for both self-care and peer support, grounded in five essential needs that promote recovery from stress and adversity: safety, calm, connection, self-efficacy, and hope. We’re happy to offer our course as a complimentary benefit to our Wells Mountain Initiative partners.
The Schwartz Rounds® Program
gives healthcare workers dedicated time and space to discuss the emotional challenges of their jobs, which has been proven to increase their capacity for compassion and ability to provide better care for patients.
Mental Health and Well-being Resources
provides tips and links to help caregivers support one another and themselves. Caring for others takes a toll. Long hours, emotional weight, and the pressure of high-stakes work add up — and healthcare workers deserve support, too.
Compassion in Action Webinar Series
offers healthcare workers, leaders and managers a unique opportunity to learn about topics related to compassionate, collaborative care from leading practitioners and researchers in this field.
The Case for Compassion
collects research that shows how compassion improves patient care and helps healthcare workers feel more fulfilled in their roles, but many organizations struggle with how to actually build more compassionate cultures.
