The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare mission is to partner with healthcare organizations to advance compassion for patients, care teams, and their healing relationships. The Schwartz Center’s expanding focus includes thought leadership and policy development for our healthcare workforce, and a range of direct-service programs and training to support caregivers in the improved delivery of patient care. Research shows that when caregivers are compassionate, patients do better and are more satisfied. Caregivers find greater meaning in their work, experiencing less stress and burnout. Hundreds of healthcare organizations in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand are Schwartz Center members, in addition to nearly 300 organizations in the U.K. and Ireland that conduct our Schwartz Rounds program. Together, we are helping hundreds of thousands healthcare professionals provide compassionate care to millions of patients and families. Our operational budget is funded approximately 50% by philanthropy, with funds coming from individual, corporate and foundation donors, and 50% by earned revenue, including from our membership.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You are an energetic, experienced fundraising professional with a successful track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing corporate philanthropic gifts; developing a robust schedule of corporate sponsorship opportunities and benefits to best meet the needs of our corporate supporters; developing and sustaining meaningful relationships with corporate donors, volunteers, and members of healthcare and/or businesses communities. You bring the ability to assess our traditional corporate relationships and the creativity to develop new types of connection and relations. You are eager to develop expertise in understanding the range of business sponsorships and business memberships available from peer organizations and a demonstrated collaborative mindset in working on a cross-functional team. ABOUT THE WORK: 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Associate Director of Corporate Engagement team at the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare (SCCH) will join a high-performing Development team and create and execute a comprehensive strategy to engage corporate donors, increase retention, and grow fundraising revenue through events, stewardship, donor recognition, and other activities.

The Associate Director, Corporate Engagement will play an active role in strategic thinking and planning of development programs to maximize philanthropic opportunities and attract new profiles of supporters from the corporate and foundations arena. This role will be responsible for creating and executing a fundraising strategy for corporate partners and revenue producing events and engaging with individual sponsors to broaden philanthropic support.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advance fundraising success through a robust and proactive donor engagement program; enhance and expand a comprehensive and integrated effort that ensures donors experience high-quality interactions that foster engagement and investment.
  • Create and execute a fundraising strategy for revenue producing events. Create meaningful sponsorship benefits and partnership activities and ensure their execution. Manage and track sponsor pipelines and manage a portfolio of prospects and donors.
  • Identify and qualify additional prospects by working independently and with colleagues; actively participate in prospect management meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Events Manager to create meaningful events and opportunities to cultivate and steward prospects and donors.
  • Engage with volunteer leaders to create and implement meaningful donor events and activities. Manage event committees and volunteer solicitors.
  • Develop prospect portfolios in partnership with the Board, Leadership Council, and Annual Dinner Committee to support outreach and stewardship for their prospect portfolios.
  • Partner with the Director of Individual Giving on meaningful and valuable engagement opportunities young professionals from corporate donors as part of the Schwartz Center’s Future Leaders Advisory Group (FLAG) initiative.
  • Develop third-party and peer-to-peer fundraising opportunities and partner with donors to maximize their effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the Development team to ensure timely and effective stewardship and recognition of donors. Develop specific strategies to increase donor retention, upgrades and acquisitions through creative and meaningful donor recognition programs and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of event programs, briefings, talking points, and correspondence in collaboration with events, stewardship, and communications colleagues.
  • Regularly evaluate and measure effectiveness of engagement strategies and make recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the Schwartz Center in general and funding priorities specifically to articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents. Develop partnerships with colleagues on the Programs and Membership teams.
  • Employ high-level project and staff management to execute plans and foster collaboration.
  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of messaging and branding, adhering to guidelines set forth by the Schwartz Center Director of Communications.
  • Stay up to date on best practices and trends in corporate engagement and philanthropy.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Occasional night and weekend work.

 

WE’RE A GOOD FIT IF YOU HAVE: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 to 7 years of experience.
  • A demonstrated record of successfully generating corporate revenue either in a non-profit or through transferable business experience.
  • A demonstrated record of “lead gen” mentality and appetite for identifying and qualifying new corporate prospects
  • Annual, Corporate, and/or Major Gifts frontline fundraising skills and/or business development skills with exposure to executive management.
  • Demonstrated success with solicitations involving grant and proposal writing, including strategy development, execution, and management.
  • Ability to stay on top of best practices and emerging trends in corporate relations.
  • Excellent relationship skills and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse internal and external contacts at all levels.

ABOUT YOU:

You are a clinician leader with a demonstrated commitment to compassionate patient care and supporting the healthcare workforce through your clinical practice, scholarship, professional roles and values. You are established as a leader in healthcare workforce well-being and/or compassionate patient care looking for an opportunity to have a national, systems-level impact. You have academic and practical knowledge of the stressors facing today’s healthcare delivery system and workforce. You are fluent in the current research and literature on burnout, workforce well-being, patient-caregiver communication, and/or compassionate care and have contributed yourself to that body of work. You have experience as a team member and leader driving improvements in patient safety, quality outcomes, patient experience, health disparities, or teamwork. You have significant leadership experience in developing programs and business opportunities that materially contribute to the growth and performance of your organization. You are a flexible, consensus builder; a respectful team player who connects with the organization’s mission; and a strong communicator who can effectively interact with key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, healthcare leaders of peer organizations, and clinical leaders of various disciplines across existing and potential members. ABOUT THE WORK:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) will be part of the senior leadership team. This is a unique opportunity for MD and RN/Patient Care Service leaders who believe in the mission and vision of the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, and have a track record of developing, implementing and growing programs and relationships. The ideal candidate profile includes:

  • Ideal for candidates wanting a role in an internationally respected healthcare nonprofit dedicated to advancing compassionate care, with opportunity for growth & development over time
  • Experience with Schwartz Center and other caregiver-support and well-being programs preferred
  • Work is primarily remote, with periodic in-person leadership and staff meetings, retreats, and Center events
  • Commitment to travel at least 10-15 times annually
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in healthcare delivery and administration
  • MD, DO, RN/APN, or another clinical professional license required
  • MBA, MPH, MHA, PhD or other advanced degree preferred
  • Open to job sharing of this portfolio between two exceptional part-time candidates; potential good fit for clinicians or leaders looking to maintain a part-time clinical practice, teaching, research, or other administrative role

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Thought Leader 

  • Present publicly about our work and programs at conferences, webinars, podcasts, panels, and in interviews with various media hosts/reporters
  • Publish our work/programs, research studies, & opinion/thought pieces
  • Serve on national panels and collaboratives that are related to the Center’s core mission
  • Serve as a key contributor on the Schwartz Center Leadership Team (LT) and actively contribute to the strategic plan and related initiatives
  • Work with external researchers/experts to further document benefits of Schwartz Rounds, Schwartz Center programs, and compassionate care, including refinement & wider adoption of compassion measurement tools
  • Convene task forces and advisory groups as needed to advance thought leadership and potential program development

Program Partner (with Sr Director of Programs, Program Team & Member Operations):

  • Assess the performance of Schwartz Rounds and other existing programs and design modifications that strengthen engagement, enhance impact, and improve perceived value to members
    • Formal publication-quality studies and evaluations (usually with outside firm)
    • Individual entity assessment, evals, data, capture of best practices, and case studies
    • Research interest-group with Schwartz Center members, and with the Point of Care Foundation in the UK
  • Identify, research, and assist in the development of new and innovative programs that support healthcare members and their evolving needs, build revenue, and further our mission
  • Assist in development of program content, training materials, curriculum, & implementation plans
  • Deliver and co-facilitate member trainings, course offerings, and workshops as needed
  • Develop program & training evaluation tools to measure program impact
  • Identify themes/topics, invite and prep speakers, facilitate and moderate the Compassionate in Action Webinar series and Conference
  • Participate in nomination review & finalist selection process for our recognition programs

Ambassador:

  • Serve as clinical face of the Center, with a primary focus on driving membership & Schwartz Rounds growth
  • Cultivate relationships with national organizations, associations, societies, other non-profits with similar missions to leverage the Schwartz Center and Schwartz Rounds “word-of-mouth” referrals and spread
  • Connect with both C-suite and clinical/program champions at individual hospitals, systems, and adjacent healthcare market entities to increase awareness, adoption, and retention
  • With the Senior Director of Programs, establish a national Member Advisory Council of key clinical and administrative champions that can advise on our Schwartz Rounds portfolio and tactics, our Community of Compassionate Care Champions strategy, and evolving member program needs
  • With CEO and COO, establish more formal partnerships, affiliations, collaborations with a variety of entities aligned with our Model for Compassionate Healthcare and our work
  • With CEO and Chief Development Officer (CDO), assist with cultivating individual, major gift, and corporate giving relationships
  • With CDO, seek funding from outside foundations and government agencies, supporting this work throughout the grant process lifecycle

Administrative:

  • Manage one physician contractor
  • Has oversight of projects and initiatives under scope and any future clinical direct reports

ABOUT THE WORK:       
The Events Coordinator will play an integral role in helping the Schwartz Center meet its annual fundraising goals. The Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Individual Giving and Chief Development Officer to plan and execute events of various sizes and ensure that appropriate follow up is conducted. Job responsibilities focus on the overall execution and delivery of a full portfolio of stewardship and cultivation events designed to raise awareness of the impactful programs offered by the Schwartz Center, engaging supporters in a variety of creative and strategic ways and ultimately increasing philanthropic revenue for the Center.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate activities related to all Schwartz Center events, including annual fundraising events, receptions, and small dinners ranging from intimate to hundreds of guests.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications to ensure that event messaging and event-related materials, including programs, save the dates reminders, invitations and follow-up emails, are crafted and sent in a timely manner.
  • Produce standard event communication and mailing lists from Atlas (Raiser’s Edge), the Schwartz Center’s CRM database.
  • Request and coordinate more complex data lists and ensure data integrity needed to establish effective event communications (e.g. event invitation lists).
  • Track all event RSVPs and event activity in database.
  • Assist in developing materials for each event which may include print, digital and video formats.
  • Coordinate production for in-person and virtual events/meetings and effectively solve problems with confidence and ease. Support technology needs at each event.
  • Organize follow-up tasks for all events in coordination with the Development Team with the goal of strengthening donor engagement, identifying and following up with new prospects, and increasing opportunities for volunteer involvement.
  • Manage travel arrangements associated with events (e.g. development staff and/or guest speakers).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party vendors and internal resources and facilities.
  • Adhere to project timelines to drive deliverables and deadlines for each event.
  • Adhere to expense budgets for all events. Coordinate tracking and reconciliation of expenses with an eye toward identifying cost-saving opportunities for future events.
  • With guidance from the Chief Development Officer, implement the strategic and long-range plans for donor events with a commitment to excellence, originality and relevance to Schwartz Center audiences.
  • Represent the Schwartz Center on the Mass General Brigham Events Council, developing relationships with counterparts in peer institutions for benchmarking and awareness of leading methods, techniques and trends; proactively recommend improvements to existing programs.
  • Document and update business rules and processes.
  • Occasional evening, weekend work and travel will be required.

 

Other Duties (20%)

  • Working closely with the Director of Individual Giving to support our volunteer councils, the Leadership Council and Future Leaders Advisory Group (FLAG)
  • Work collaboratively with the Development Team and Executive Assistant to provide office and administrative support back-up as needed. 

 

WE’RE A GOOD FIT IF YOU HAVE: 

  • Two or more years’ experience in events, preferably in development or a related field. Experience may be volunteer or community based.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • A customer-service approach to serving donors and colleagues.
  • Strong dedication to the mission and programs of the Schwartz Center
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement an array of events – large and small in scale, virtual and in-person, on-site and off-site.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities; meticulous attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to listen and express ideas and thoughts effectively.
  • Warm, professional demeanor; positive and helpful attitude; flexible, with an optimistic approach to new challenges.

ABOUT THE WORK: 
The Member Experience Advisor (MEA) is responsible for partnering with Schwartz Center members to ensure their programs such as Schwartz Rounds and Stress First Aid are successful across the member base. This includes regular communication with members, supporting new and current members in implementing Schwartz Center programs. The MEA reports to the Senior Director of Programs and coordinates efforts with the Schwartz Center membership team.

Support the successful implementation, leadership, and sustainability of Schwartz Center programs at member organizations

  • Partner with Assistant Director of Programs and Training Specialist to manage the program training and implementation for Schwartz Center programs
  • Advise Schwartz Center members on integration of Schwartz Center programs into their workforce wellbeing strategies
  • Cultivate successful, collaborative relationships with membership organizations
  • Conduct phone calls, video calls, and meetings with hospital leaders and high-level clinicians who are instrumental to the success of Schwartz Center programs
  • Identify new member business opportunities when presented
  • Identify new opportunities for Schwartz Center programs, trainings, and resources
  • Provide support and facilitation for Schwartz Center educational programs, Facilitation Workshops and Community Connections as needed
  • Present at conferences as needed
  • Travel (when possible, as needed) to member organizations across the country

 

WE’RE A GOOD FIT IF YOU HAVE: 

  • BA/BS and a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience (master’s degree preferred)
  • A clinical background (desirable but not required)
  • Familiarity with the Schwartz Rounds program (desirable but not required)

  • Ability to think critically and creatively
  • Ability to travel (eventually 4 to 6 times per year)
  • Excellent computer skills including extensive knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, and Salesforce
  • Experience with learning management systems (desirable but not required)
  • Passionate about improving relationships of care and healthcare workforce wellbeing
  • Regular availability from 12pm-8pm Eastern Time to meet the needs of our members in Australia and New Zealand
